Afghanistan is not a lost cause
6 Dec
One thing that always bugs me are the people who oppose war. Now, if it is the Iraq war we are talking about, that is a completely different story. That is a war I don’t fully agree with. I don’t agree that they went in that early. Anyway, 3 more Canadian soldiers lost their lives in Afghanistan and “the usuals” are out screaming to bring them home.
I was reading THIS ARTICLE on The Toronto Star website and some of the comments dropped my jaw. These people need to realize that you can’t just sit back and run around with flowers and expect the world to get better. Unfortunately, the world is so messed up you have to go and be proactive once and a while.
You join the military knowing that you may be sent to a war and die. You join the military to serve your country, knowing you may be sent to war and die. They are doing what we are all too scared to do; risk our lives. If a police officer gets shot and killed on the streets, should we pull all the police officers in? It is a high risk job, they know what they are getting into.
I’m going to address some of the comments from The Star website.
Comment: “George Bush invited a war and terror attacks into his own backyard for his own political gains…”
You claim that “George Bush invited a war and terror attacks into his own backyard for his own political gains…”. That is really amazing! The terrorists decided they hated America January 20th, 2001 (when Bush took office) and planned the September 11th attacks in that short amount of time. The terrorists started hating America way before then, try again. I honestly would like to know where you came up with this one?
Also, you say why are we there? Canada wasn’t attacked. That is technically correct. However, 24 Canadians died in the 9/11 attacks. If you had researched you would have found this out. That is part of the reason we went in, also sometimes the world has to come together on something that will eventually turn out good.
Comment: “Politicians are the scourge of society. It’s all for the money”
I totally agree with you on the first part and also partly on the second part. Politicians are out to get more money and they do not care about the country at all. With that being said, I don’t think that they are in Afghanistan to make money. I think this time it is just about doing the right thing, that is approved by the United Nations.
Someone else expressed the opinion that the war wasn’t going anywhere. That may appear to be true. The terrorists use women and children to shield them from our soldiers and then we can’t fire back at them. If the military kills one civillian you are all up in arms saying how bad they are. Yet, when a suicide bomber blows up a school full of children or innocent people on the street, where are you then? You don’t speak up at all. Why are you not giving out about the terrorists who kill way more people on purpose?
I would just like to thank all the Canadian Men and Women who risk their lives every day. Even though some people here do not realize why you are doing it, we appreciate it.
